    Option 1: Herbal Insect Repellent Soap


    • Castile soap
    • Essential oil of your choice, such as: lemon balm, pennyroyal, lavender, or rose geranium

    1. Add 10-15 drops of essential oils per ounce of liquid Castile soap
    2. Use before and after being outdoors

    Option 2: Herbal Insect Repellent Spray

    According to Krissy Schwab in the article Natural Homemade Insect Repellents that Work try the method below to make your own herbal repellent spray:

    1. Choose an Essential Oil

    • Eucalyptus
    • Lemon Balm
    • Citronella
    • Rose geranium
    • Cinnamon oil
    • Basil
    • Clove
    • Thyme

    2. Choose a carrier liquid

    • Witch hazel
    • Sunflower oil
    • Apple cider
    • Liquid soap
    • Vegetable oil
    • Mineral oil
    • Lemon juice
    • Tea tree oil
    • Vodka
    • Rubbing alcohol

    3. For a more powerful repellent, add herbs to your mixture

    • Catnip
    • Mint
    • Thyme
    • Basil
    • Rosemary
    • Sage
    • Lavender
    • Citronella
    • Lemon grass

     4. Directions

    1. Mix one part essential oil with 15 parts carrier liquid
    2. Put solution into saucepan and heat on stove
    3. Cut up herbs and leave them in the mixture for as long as you like (longer is better)
    4. Strain the mixture
    5. Put in spray bottle
