A multivitamin is a combination of several different kinds of vitamins that are usually found in foods and other sources. They come in tablet, capsule, or pill forms. Multivitamins are taken to provide vitamins that are not offered in a regular diet or to treat vitamin deficiencies.
You should never take more than the recommended dose of a multivitamin and do not take more than one multivitamin, unless instructed to by your doctor. It is possible to overdose on vitamins! An overdose can cause serious and life-threatening issues.
Why Take a Multivitamin?
There are several reasons why you might want to take a multivitamin. Below is a list of common incentives for taking a multivitamin:
Illness Recovery – Taking a multivitamin will immediately provide your body with the nutrients it needs to quickly recuperate from an illness.
Dietary Restrictions – If you are on a strict diet, you may not be getting the essential nutrients your body needs. An individual limiting his or her calories or following vegan or vegetarian diets may need to take multivitamins as dietary aids.
Prenatal Health – A pregnant women requires a higher vitamin intake because she is providing the nutrients for her baby and herself. Doctors often recommend pregnant women take prenatal multivitamins, so that she receives amble vitamins to support the baby. Increased Energy – Arizona State University’s wellness office suggests that taking a daily multivitamin can improve your energy and help your body respond better to stress.
