    Cherry Ice Cream with Basil

    Ingredients

    1 ½ cups ripe cherries, pitted and halved
    ½ cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar
    2/3 cup milk

    ¼ teaspoon salt
    1 egg
    1 tablespoon vanilla
    1 cup heavy cream

    Steps

    1. Mix the cherries and 3 tablespoons of sugar into a bowl and let it stand until the sugar dissolves
    2. Heat 1/3 cup of milk
    3. Stir in the basil leaves
    4. Let steep for at least one hour
    5. Strain and heat the milk until it is lukewarm
    6. Add ½ cup of sugar
    7. Add ¼ teaspoon of salt
    8. Stir until the sugar is dissolved
    9. Beat the egg until it is light
    10.  Blend the egg into the milk mixture
    11.  Add the remaining milk
    12.  Cook the mixture over low heat until it thickens
    13. Chill the mixture
    14. When the mixture is cold, stir in vanilla and cream and freeze
    15. Add cherries when the ice cream is partially frozen

    Lavender Ice Cream

    Ingredients

    2 cups milk
    2/3 cup cream
    3 egg yolks
    ¾ cup sugar
    1 cup fresh lavender blossoms

    Steps

    1. Mix milk, cream, and flowers in saucepan
    2. Warm mixture on medium heat until foamy
    3. Mix eggs until well blended in separate bowl
    4. Add sugar to eggs
    5. Strain milk/cream to remove lavender blossoms
    6. Add ½ cup warm milk/cream mixture to eggs
    7. Mix well
    8. Add egg mixture to remaining milk/cream mixture
    9. Cool in refrigerator
    10. Pour into ice cream maker
