What is Sage?
Sage is an evergreen shrub with pale green-gray leaves, a woody stem, and a strong aroma. It has a height of about 18 to 24 inches and it grows lavender colored flowers in the summer. Its medicinal properties are taken from the leaves and essential oils of the plant.
Insect Bites – For fast relief from itching and swelling, crush or chew fresh sage leaves, mix them with salvia, and apply the preparation to the affected area.
Throat Pain – Sage is widely known to immediately ease a sore throat. It is anti-septic and anti-bacterial and acts as an astringent, killing the infection. According to motherearthliving.com, gargle this recipe for relief:
• 1 teaspoon fresh sage leaves
• 1 cup of boiling water
• ¼ ounce of salt
Mix the boiling water and sage, cover and soak for 20 minutes. Strain the water and then add salt. Gargle as needed.
Natural Deodorizer – Sage has a strong scent, so it is an excellent disinfectant or deodorizer. It dries perspiration and eradicates body odor.
Digestion – When taken orally, sage soothes muscle spasms and pain in the intestines, which helps reduce cramps, bloating, and gas.

Memory Booster – Sage acts as a tonic for the brain. It has been proven that sage oil improves memory and quickens the senses. Also, studies show that sage blocks the enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine, which helps improve brain function in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
