Oregano is both a culinary herb and medicinal plant. It is aromatic and flavorful and can greatly augment many dishes. But not only does it add flavor to cooking, it has several health and healing benefits as well.
Oregano contains thymol and carvacrol, which are oils that have strong bacteria fighting properties. According to medicalnewstoday.com, research proves that oregano has such powerful antibacterial properties that it can kill the MRSA infection that commonly plagues hospitals.
Oregano also contains an acid called rosmarinic, which, in addition to thymol, acts as potent antioxidants. Oregano oil is frequently used internally to treat illnesses, and externally for skin infections. It should be diluted before use.

Oregano provides essential vitamins and minerals such as fiber, iron, manganese, vitamin E, vitamin K, iron, calcium, omega fatty acids, manganese, and tryptophan. With all these nutrients, oregano is one of the healthiest herbs around!
